Here's a super early cupcake for your Monday morning! We are just about to get back on the road from Houston to home. Yay! The interesting thing about this cupcake is the background, the rich reds and burgundies look like velvet. And the red shows off the mocha frosting and shiny cherry. Cupcake #108 **sold**

A new version of an old favorite, red velvet cake with a swirl of cream cheese icing, topped with a fun little heart shaped ladybug. Surrounded by a soft celery green background that helps make the red tones in the cake really show up. Take a look at all the variations of color in the cup, purples and plums through brick reds, it's touches like this that makes even the smallest of paintings interesting to look at!

This is a fun little cupcake, the dog 's head (I'm told it's a dachshund, but it looks a lot like our favorite mutt Freda Doglo) is made of colored sugar, surrounded by curls of pink chocolate. The cake itself is red velvet, a southern phenomenon. The background is a fresh celery green chosen to make the pinks and reds in the cupcake pop just a little more. Green being the complementary color to red, but if you've been reading this blog for any time you know that! Have a great day, and stay out of the doghouse!

Scott came down the studio stairs last night exclaiming "oooh this is going to be a hit!" And I think he may be right! Beautiful pastel colors, these are achieved by adding white to the main body of color, lightening the 'value' of the color. Value refers to the lightness or darkness in color theory. Add all the technical stuff to the southern Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting or icing depending where you come from, and I think Scott's correct. It's gonna be a hit!
