I think one of the best things about a cupcake is that the icing to cake ratio is much higher than regular cake! And this is a perfect example, a great scoop of chocolate icing rolled in chocolate sprinkles. Another dab of icing is used to glue the cherry on top! The background, a bright spring green makes the cupcake pop! Enjoy!

A deep chocolate cupcake piled high with milk chocolate frosting and drizzled with strawberry sauce. Yum! Resting on a pale blue grey background, this is sure to appeal to the chocoholic in your life! I can just imagine this on a chocolate brown wall, simply stunning.

Brrrr, there wasn't any frost on the pumpkin this morning, but it was awfully close! This yummy pumpkin cupcake starts with a spice cake. Topped with thick pumpkin cream cheese frosting and a scattering of coconut. All sitting on an olive green background. Warm colors and warm thoughts for a happy autumn!

Cupcake #290, do you know what that means? Only 75 more cupcakes to go! But, back to the present, today's chocolate raspberry truffle cupcake is sitting pretty on a warm brick red background. Although they look like very different colors, the raspberry red, and the background sit very close to each other on the color wheel. One leans closer to the cool side of red, and the other a warm red leaning to the orange side. Did you know there was a such a thing as a cool red? Enjoy!

Cupcake #277 is topped with a thick swirl of cream cheese icing and a flash of chocolate drizzle. The cake itself is chocolate, sitting in a simple paper cup. The background is deep brick red, changing to a burgundy in the shadow. Warm autumn colors, yum!

The daily cupcake is going to have to take a bit of a break, as we are going on a quick art tour. We're heading to New York City this week, as Kathrine will be in the Gracie Square Art Show on the upper east side of Manhattan on October 2nd and 3rd. Then up to Cape Cod, where Scott will be doing a gallery talk about his Mediterranean Boat Series at the Calhoon Museum of American Art in Cotuit on Tuesday Oct 5th. If you are in the area his show is up until October 30th. Then we may or may not be continuing our stay in Greenwich, Connecticut. Kathrine is on the waiting list for the Bruce Museum show the following weekend, we are just waiting for a phone call to let us know if she's in. So long story short, we don't really know when we'll be back, so keep checking in. We'll post along the way to keep you all in the loop! Cupcake #272 **sold**

A sweet blueberry cupcake. The frosting on this cupcake is right at the brink of purple. So close to pink, but the slightest bit of blue in it brings it back to the purple or violet end of the spectrum. Green, blue and purple all sit next to each other on the color wheel, but in this case the green is so close to yellow, and the purple so close to pink, that they hardly seem to be related at all. But together, they sing. This one won't match your sofa, but be the brave collector, if it makes you smile!

#271 is the perfect combination, chocolate and black cherry. Topped with a scattering of chocolate chips, and surrounded by a milk chocolate background, it is just waiting for someone to take a bite! Enjoy!

Cupcake #261

You can tell fall is in the air, even the cupcakes seem to be changing colors! Creamy butterscotch icing tops this sweet chocolate number. You can see the deep orange background reflected back in the frosting. It will be interesting to see if the change of seasons brings about more gold, pumpkin, and deep burgundy to Scott's palette. Stay tuned!

Cupcake #233 **sold**

Today's cupcake is pure summer! Strawberry lemonade, complete with a little straw for garnish. We actually taste tested this one, and the lemon icing was simply marvelous. The pink, yellow and blue completes a pastel version of the primary triad which makes for a beautifully balanced painting. A cold winter would be no match for this sunny cupcake, enjoy!

Cupcake #228 **sold**

In color theory terms, this would be considered a "high value" cupcake. Meaning that all the colors are light, or pale in terms of value scale that runs from light to dark. It is also close to being monochromatic, everything being a variation of yellow, yellow green surrounded by an almost pure yellow. But all that aside, the pile of yellow roses is simply beautiful! Enjoy!

Here's your double cherry cupcake to close out the week! The background is almost coral, a bright combination of pink and orange to make the deep purple red of the cherries pop. I love the reflections on the cherries, and all the colors hidden in them. Enjoy your weekend, and we'll see you Monday!

Cupcake #225 **sold**

Beebop a doo wop, rhubarb pie... or whatever it is Garrison Keillor sings on NPR! This, Scott tells me is a rhubarb cupcake. I've had rhubarb several times in pie, and would love to try this cupcake, Scott, who has never had it, is not so sure! The subtle tones of yellows and pink really shine in this cupcake, but the red background is certainly the dominant color. Have a great day!

Cupcake #179 **sold**

This was one of those cupcakes that really made my eyes light up as it came down the studio stairs. I love many little things about this from how the top of the cake looks just slightly crisp, to the layers of piped icing, to the pale, pale pink sprinkles. The background was painted a super neutral slate grey so that the delicate color of the pinks wouldn't be overpowered and could shine through. It's a beauty!
