A cool slate blue grey surrounds today's cupcake, this neutral color helps make the amazing green just pop! Combine that with two layers of chocolate, and I think we have a winner! Enjoy!

Cupcake #183 **sold**

A sweet party cupcake, complete with carousel horses. A scattering of pastel colored sprinkles dot the pale strawberry pink icing. The background is a vibrant peach, perfect for a Georgia girl! This little piece will hang just fine on its own, or the sprinkles give you a rainbow of options to pair it with! Cheers!

Today's cupcake has somehow managed to pull off "sultry." A combination of cool, sophisticated, and mysterious! How does a cupcake do that!? Start with chocolate, (that's my personal rule, always start with chocolate,) add a layer of girly pink, and finish with an exquisite full blown rose. Surround all that with a warm melted chocolate background that has a hint of burgundy, and you get sultry. Enjoy!

OK, this is just pretty. Chocolate, cherries, whipped cream, it has it all. The background is a polka dotted soft khaki. And if you ever wonder what it's like working full time with your artist husband in the same studio you'll have to take a peek at my latest painting. You may just see a little cross pollination of ideas going on! We are currently debating who is the best painter of cherries... Have a great day!

Here's one for all the chocoholics out there, you know who you are! A simple vanilla cupcake to begin with, with a beautiful swirling mound of deep dark chocolate, finished with just the right amount of rainbow sprinkles. The background is a neutral taupe. This little number will play very well in a group, as the little flecks of color will help it work with more colorful pieces. Yet it is also so neutral it gives the eye a rest between the more intense colors. Enjoy!

This was one of those cupcakes that really made my eyes light up as it came down the studio stairs. I love many little things about this from how the top of the cake looks just slightly crisp, to the layers of piped icing, to the pale, pale pink sprinkles. The background was painted a super neutral slate grey so that the delicate color of the pinks wouldn't be overpowered and could shine through. It's a beauty!

Mmmm, a strawberry-lime cupcake, in those pretty sorbet fresh colors. Topped with a pair of strawberries, this little sweetie is sure to make your mouth water! And we know that red and green are complementary colors, but when they are made into tints by adding white, they still are complementary, even though they are now peach and mint!

A fresh new carrot cupcake! The "carrots" on top are quite interesting, candied strips of carrot rolled into little cone shapes, with a pinch of the carrot greenery tucked into the ends. I can't imagine having that much time on my hands! A sunny yellow background completes the painting. And it was pure accident that we have it sitting above yesterday's purple, perfect complements! Cheers!

Today's cupcake, topped with sparkling white frosting and a drizzle of chocolate, is resting on a background of royal purple. Threads of vibrant color weave their way around the cup, and will help to pair this cupcake with another. Sometimes all it takes is a glimmer of color to lead your eye from one thing to the next. See you tomorrow!

Everything is better with a little sugar on top! Today's cupcake has it all, marble cake, swirls of chocolate glaze, a dusting of sugar, and a cherry on top! (Have I mentioned I started a diet yesterday? All this may do me in!) Surrounded by a magenta polka dotted background, this is sure to make someone smile! Enjoy!

Cupcake #174

Here's a cupcake that could make itself at home in the most traditional office setting! The chocolate, caramel and olive green would work perfectly with mahogany and oriental rugs. A great way to inject a little giggle into your day. I love the shine on the almost translucent caramel topping, they may be cupcakes, but you have to admit, Scott can sure paint!

I've been looking at this cupcake all morning wondering just what it is about the combination of yellow red and white that I like so much. It just hit me...France... this is a traditional french Provencal color palette. Go to the South of France (where Scott and I met 14 years ago) and you'll find tablecloths and napkins, and pottery all decked out in these fabulous colors! But if you can't get there anytime soon, sit back and enjoy this beautiful cupcake!

Cupcake #172

Today's cupcake is topped with one of my all time favorites, malt balls! Chocolate brown and sky blue are the dominant colors of this piece. It would hang well with similar colors, turquoise, lime green, or contrasting colors, oranges, and yesterday's fuchsia. Enjoy!

Cupcake #171 **sold**

I love magenta, fuchsia, or hot pink, and this little cupcake has lots of it! Red currants top this little number, although I'm pretty sure you wouldn't eat them raw, they do provide plenty of color punch. If it weren't for the little sliver of cake that shows, this would be a monochromatic painting. That is one color plus shades or tints made with black and white. But that touch of yellow, just helps it shine! Cheers!

Today's little bit of sweetness is a study in contrast between warm and cool colors. The warm being that lovely honey beige of the almond cupcake, (there just has to be a touch of Amaretto in there somewhere!) And the cool being the deep slate grey background. All that neutral color is accented with a quick little dash of purple in the swag design on the cup. Have a great day, and we'll see you tomorrow!

There is something magical about sprinkles. Little round bits of what? Cornstarch & food coloring? They don't taste good, they don't taste like much at all. But if they are on a cupcake, or donut, or anything I want it. It must be a nostalgia thing, looking for that rush of a six year old at a birthday party! This cupcake is covered in magic, sprinkles that stuck in some spots, and not others, I think the top must be a meringue lined with ribbons of fudge. All surrounded by a beautiful apple green. Perfect!

Cupcake #168 **sold**

A new fruit! Two slices of mango top this little cupcake, and it's surrounded by a pure polka dottie red, that practically leaps off the wall. To the human eye, warm colors like oranges and reds seem to "come forward" where as cool colors like blues and greens recede. An optical illusion that is used extensively in the real world, this is why stop signs and fire trucks are red, same with having a red piece of cloth hanging off the back of the last log on a logging truck! If you have a collection of cupcakes, you'll want a few bright red ones scatted throughout, this will help the eye move around the group, and make for a pleasing composition. Or if this will be your only cupcake, it will definitely get noticed in a room! Enjoy!

Cupcake #167 **sold**

A key lime cupcake, sitting in a jazzy little cup. Surrounded by a sky blue background, this is as fresh and pretty as can be! I love the way the icing curls on this one! Green and blue are analogous colors, and since the blue is lightened to the same value as the green, that makes this an analogous discord. This is why the colors sing so! Enjoy!

Cupcake #166 **sold**

A tart little lemon cupcake is sitting on a lime green background. Topped with a thin slice of fresh lemon, this is no kiddie cupcake! Green and yellow are analogous colors, as they sit next to each other on the color wheel, and they play beautifully off one another. A bright, fresh addition to any room, enjoy!

Such a tropical little cupcake! It's the colors that do it really, I look at this piece and the first thing I think of is a Hawaiian dress my grandparents brought home for me when I was about 7 or 8! Technically an analogous discord for all you color theory fans, as red and orange sit next to each other on the color wheel, and the red has been lightened to make this hot pink. Enjoy this little blast from the tropics!

We had the great cupcake debate last night, is this cupcake even possible? Would anyone pipe these little beehive shaped mounds of icing? This one is clearly from Scott's imagination. Even if it's not possible in the real world, it looks good on paper, or canvas as is the case! Topped with tiny little wild strawberries, this one will add a little funk to any collection!

Have I ever mentioned how soft hearted my husband is? A few weeks ago I started telling him how a couple of cardinals had built a nest in the climbing rose on our front porch. He didn't pay much attention, until I told him we had a baby bird. When I pointed out the nest and baby he started watching, checking every couple of hours on the progress of the wee one. Well he came in yesterday pleased as punch that Mama and Daddy had taught the little one to fly, and he witnessed the first flight! So this coconut cupcake is in honor of our cardinal family, they have left the nest, but can still be heard chirping in our woods!

Cupcake #162 **sold**

Wow, cupcake #162, that's a lot of cupcakes! This little number is all about the cup, a jazzy pattern of swooshes and spots. The background is a thick yellow orange, the color of sweet potatoes. One of those "grown up" colors I occasionally talk about, a rich warm color, but if you ask any 6 year old what their favorite color is, mashed pumpkin is not likely the answer you'll get! This will pair perfectly with a cupcake with a blue or moss green background! Cheers!
