Today's cupcake just sings summertime to me. Strawberry lemonade surrounded by a blue, blue sky. A polka dotted sky perhaps, but still. Working with a classic primary triad, of red, yellow and blue, a simple cupcake invokes a feeling of balance. Pure and simple.

Mmmm, a strawberry-lime cupcake, in those pretty sorbet fresh colors. Topped with a pair of strawberries, this little sweetie is sure to make your mouth water! And we know that red and green are complementary colors, but when they are made into tints by adding white, they still are complementary, even though they are now peach and mint!

You just can't go wrong with chocolate and strawberry! Showing off in it's fancy little cup, and piled high with fudge icing with a topping of strawberry jam, this one makes my mouth water! Surrounded by a peach background that reminds me of sherbet, this little cupcake would be a great addition to any collection. Enjoy, and we'll see you tomorrow with two more!

All I can think of when I look at this cupcake is strawberries. The color of the icing is that luscious warm pink you'd get from crushed strawberries. A little different from the almost purple hue raspberries give. Topped with not one, but two cherries, this one is sure to send you out to the local bakery. Or into the kitchen to create your own! Cheers!

Cupcake #131 **sold**

It's funny how after posting over 130 cupcakes they can still have distinct personalities! This one just makes me smile, in sort of a six year old's birthday party kinda way! Simple red and yellow, primary colors, with a couple of slices of strawberry on top. The background has subtle polka dots to mirror the big ones in the cup. We are off to The Bayou City Arts Festival in Houston, TX this morning. This was a perfectly amazing cupcake! A warm (or perhaps even hot) cooked strawberry was laid on top of the icing...and it slowly melted into the top. Pure heaven! Our new favorite from the Atlanta Cupcake Factory. Chocolate sprinkles top it off, we ate it...and it was good!

It's Valentine Week at the Daily Cupcake! Every day this week we will be posting a new cupcake for your sweetheart, or yourself. They will all have a heart or hearts to celebrate this sweet day. This one also has a strawberry perched on top, and a little heart that is made by drizzling warm chocolate into a heart shape onto a piece of waxed paper and left to cool. Easier said than done! These will be sure to arrive before the 14th if you purchase this week. Cheers!

This one is a beauty! But really, how can you go wrong with chocolate, strawberry, and kiwi?! This little cupcake shows off it's full range of values, from the deep dark chocolate in the shadows, to the flicker of white light bouncing off the fruit. Value is important in a painting because the eye registers light and dark before it sees color. So a piece that has a good range of values is easy for the eye to "read" quickly. All of this surrounded by a warm fleshy pink, that is both a contrast to the pale green in the icing, and echoed in the highlight in the chocolate. Yum!

A pretty little slice of strawberry tops today's cupcake. Mounds of pink cream on chocolate, surrounded by a minty green background gives this piece a nice fresh look. Pink and pale green are complementary colors, as they sit across from each other in the color wheel in their original forms of red and green. Adding white to a color creates a tint, and adding black creates a shade, and you'll find plenty of both in this piece.

Cupcake #20! **sold**

Wow, here we are with cupcake #20, that brings us to the end of four weeks on the daily cupcake! But have no fear, we have grand aspirations with this project, which we will reveal as time goes by! In the meantime #20 is a juicy little reminder of summer, now that we've had to turn the furnace on even in Georgia! Warm corals with that delicious deep purple. And you know the cupcake must have been warm to make the icing run off like that!
