Cupcake #339 **sold**

The classic combination of chocolate and almond, surrounded by salmon pink. (I know, any mention of fish in connection with chocolate sorta kills the joy! But "salmon" really is the best way to describe this fresh pinky-peach color!) I love how the broken lines of purple dance around the cup and cause a little "reticulation." That's the vibrating buzzing kind of feeling you get in your eyes when you stare at tight stripes, or the edges of complementary colors. Enjoy!

Cupcake #338 **sold**

What a delightful cupcake! Caramel is drizzled across the top then pulled into a delicate feather design. All this on top of another layer of caramel and cream. The deep teal background shows off all the warm tones in the caramel. Have a great day!

Cupcake #337 **sold**

What a beautiful, fresh looking cupcake! Strawberry slices on top, and little bits of chopped strawberry dotted around the edges, cream filling and whipped cream, this one has it all! The background is a pale celery green to make the pale pinks in the cupcake shine. Don't let this one get away!

Cupcake #336 **sold**

I love all the color in this cupcake, and the brick red background just makes it sing! Striped chocolate sticks and a rainbow of candies crown a delicious scoop of dark chocolate frosting. Sneak a little color into your life, and a little chocolate! Enjoy!

Cupcake #335 **sold**

I don't know about you, but I'm kinda worried about the old guy... Spice cake, topped with a generous scoop of cream, and what's left of St. Nick. The background is a chilly snowy blue. Only one more cupcake before Christmas, have you been naughty or nice?

Wednesday, December 22, 2010

Cupcake #334 **sold**

The raspberry fruitcake cupcake, (try saying that three times fast!) Flecks of nuts, berries, (and all that mystery stuff that makes fruitcake), glimmer through in today's cupcake. Topped with cream and a fresh raspberry. The background is a neutral chocolate brown, making this go with just about anything, including yesterday's cupcake, what a great pair!

Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Cupcake #333

Cupcake #333 is a delicious combination of cherry and chocolate! The chocolate cake is topped with a generous scoop of cherry icing, then rolled in cherry infused coconut. A trio of cherries grace the top. The background is a silvery grey, a neutral color to allow the red to shine!

Cupcake #332

Christmas colored sprinkles top this triple layered cupcake. Are these three layers of frosting even possible? Probably not in real life, but anything is possible here, just call it one of the wonders of the Christmas season! Enjoy!

Saturday, December 18, 2010

Cupcake #331 **sold**

A happy holiday cupcake! Swirls of frosting snow are a perfect spot to plant a few Christmas trees, surrounded by a rich red the color of red velvet. Have a great day, hope your holiday shopping is almost done!

Thursday, December 16, 2010

Cupcake #330 **sold**

Cupcake #330, the "winter wonderland" cupcake, or perhaps the "let it snow" cupcake! It's about as sweet as it can be, and in keeping with the chilly weather we've been having. Please pardon our absence for the past few days, a minor computer problem has developed into a major one, somewhere along the lines of simply "buy a new computer" being the only option. Sigh, hopefully we can get this all back together without any more interruptions.

Cupcake #329 (nfs)

What can I say? It's not often I'm at a loss for words, but, but but... The flamingo cupcake, a birthday present for Scott's sister Jennifer, a long time flamingo collector. With this cupcake comes wishes for blue skies, warm water, and plenty of sunsets as Jennifer and David build their dream house on the Florida panhandle. xo

Cupcake #328 **sold**

I think one of the best things about a cupcake is that the icing to cake ratio is much higher than regular cake! And this is a perfect example, a great scoop of chocolate icing rolled in chocolate sprinkles. Another dab of icing is used to glue the cherry on top! The background, a bright spring green makes the cupcake pop! Enjoy!

Friday, December 10, 2010

Cupcake #327 **sold**

I think we should call this the denial cupcake, here we are in the cold, buried in ho ho ho and all that holiday spirit. And here comes Scott down the studio stairs with this super citrus cupcake. Florida colors abound! Enjoy the complementary colors, there are two pairs here, then close your eyes and think of warm sand and pink flamingos!

Cupcake #326

What a pretty thing! A Neapolitan cupcake! Starting with a dark chocolate cake, and piled high with layers of frosting this little cupcake is sitting on a background that is about the color of a vanilla sugar cookie. Anyone really sweet on your holiday shopping list? This may be the answer!

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Cupcake #325 **sold**

Happy holidays! Red and green maraschino cherries nestled in a pool of chocolate should get anyone in the holiday spirit! Surrounded by a brilliant red background, the chocolate, cream, and cherries practically sing, enjoy!

Tuesday, December 7, 2010

Cupcake #324 **sold**

This sounds perfectly delicious, a sweet potato cupcake, topped with toasted marshmallows and candied pecans. Warm and gooey. The background is a fresh pale green that brings out all the warm oranges and touches of red in the cupcake. What a delight!

Monday, December 6, 2010

Cupcake #323

This almost sinful looking chocolate cupcake is dotted with a ring of chocolate covered raisins. The background is a subtle taupe to allow the velvety rich red to shine. Do you have a little corner that could use a little punch of color, this may be just the ticket! Cheers!

Saturday, December 4, 2010

Cupcake #322 **sold**

Apricots, pine nuts, and honey. No kidding, that's what is drizzled all over this cupcake. As they say down here, "It'll make you want to slap your Mama." Surrounded by a deep plum background to make the colors in the cupcake shine. Simple and luscious, enjoy!

Cupcake #321 **sold**

This snowman cupcake is so darned charming with his little pretzel stick arms! Sitting on a snowy blue background, this would be a great gift for anyone on your list. Ho Ho Ho!

Cupcake #320 **sold**

We had our first "hard freeze" here last night, yes, it even freezes in Georgia! So Scott decided to dump all the wintry cupcake ideas and head for a little escapism! If you've already had enough of frosty windshields, or slush and snow, here is your cupcake. Wishing you sunny skies and warm waters!

Wednesday, December 1, 2010

Cupcake #319 **sold**

'Tis the season to be jolly, (fa la la la la la la la lolly is the next line at our house!) Red and green are another pair of complementary colors on the color wheel. But they have been so taken over by Christmas that they are hard to get away with using at any other time of the year. So we are going with it while we can! Enjoy this perfectly gorgeous chocolate cranberry cupcake, it is even prettier in person!

Cupcake #318

The first thing that I thought about when I saw this cupcake was how it held all the colors of a sunset! Yellows, and oranges even that dusky purple that happens right at the end. That, and the fact that the icing is piled so high there is no way to eat it without icing getting on your nose! Always a good thing! Enjoy!

Monday, November 29, 2010

Cupcake #317 **sold**

A little bit of peppermint to ease us into the holiday season! Surrounded by a sweet pink background, this is almost a monochromatic painting. Monochromatic is when only one hue is used, in this case red, with black and white to allow for all the tints and shades. The sliver of cake showing through is why it's only an "almost." Now who do you think would love to see a cupcake in their stocking? Perhaps you could send a link to The Daily Cupcake to your favorite Santa!

Saturday, November 27, 2010

Cupcake #316 (nfs)

A sparkling birthday cupcake, with wonderful thick chocolate icing, sprinkled with those magical silver and turquoise dragees. The background, not wanting to compete with the main event is a subtle taupe. So why is it marked NFS? It's my birthday, and this is my present! Mine, all mine! Enjoy your day folks, and we'll be back on Monday!

Friday, November 26, 2010

Cupcake #315 **sold**

Sitting on top of this cupcake is a crispy chocolate shell that is no doubt holding something wonderful! Drizzled with a little icing, and topped with a tiny strawberry, I can sense chocolate bliss! The background is a purple that's reminiscent of blackberries, hmmm, maybe that's a clue to what's inside? This is cupcake #315, that means only 50 cupcakes to go, get them while they're hot!

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Cupcake #314 **sold**

Happy Thanksgiving from the cupcake turkey! An ice cream scoop full of frosting, dotted with cookies, and candy corn, accented with an almond beak makes an awesome cupcake! Enjoy your day with friends and family, and don't forget to tell them about The Daily Cupcake!

Wednesday, November 24, 2010

Cupcake #313

Luscious lemon, piled high and sprinkled with a bit of pink sugar. Sitting on a pale blue background. The use of pink yellow and blue makes this a primary triad, as the colors are all tints of the three primary colors. Using a triad, being three colors that are equal distance from each other on the color wheel gives this piece a good sense of balance. It works with purple, orange, and green too, try it!

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

Cupcake #312 **sold**

Everything's coming up roses! Chocolate, cupcake, cookie, cream, and a cherry, all those c's make for one pretty cupcake, and are a definite threat to my waistline! Toss in the funky polka dotted background, and this would certainly brighten someones day. Cheers!

Monday, November 22, 2010

Cupcake #311 **sold**

There is something about the combination of violet and green that really appeals to me. They are all analogous colors as green, blue, and violet are all neighbors on the color wheel. The green has been neutralised with red to allow the purple to sing, and sing it does! Have a great day!

Friday, November 19, 2010

Cupcake #310 **sold**

Pink, and it's neighbor on the color wheel, peach are the stars of this show. Let me clarify that, red and orange are the neighbors, or the analogous colors, as they sit next to each other on the color wheel. Pink and peach are tints of those colors, made by adding white. Picky, picky, I know! This sweet vanilla cupcake is topped with balls of white chocolate, and pink sprinkles, sure to make someone's day!

Cupcake #309

Chocolate, coconut, cookies, three of my favorite things! The background is a crisp icy blue, one of my favorite colors to pair with mocha brown. I don't know about you, but I think this cupcake has moved right past all those autumn colors into winter...brrr!

Thursday, November 18, 2010

Cupcake #308 **sold**

A delicious study in complementary colors! Yellow and violet sit across from each other on the color wheel, therefore they are opposites, or complementary. Yellow is a good choice to neutralise violet, and violet will neutralise yellow. Good to know if you are trying to mix anything between a warm gold to a plum. Come back tomorrow to see what Scott is working on today!

Cupcake #307 **sold**

You just have to take a look out your window to understand the inspiration for this cupcake. Great billowing clouds of bright golden yellow contrasting with deep burnt reds, soft beige, and flecks of fiery orange surround our house right now, simply stunning. Now close your eyes and think of the flavor of pumpkin pie. A big story, for one little cupcake, enjoy!

Tuesday, November 16, 2010

Cupcake #306

Chocolate cherry cupcake with a cherry on top! Try saying that three times fast! Drizzled shiny chocolate sauce over piped rich cherry frosting. The maraschino cherry rests on its side to fit into the composition. The background, a cool slate blue pulls it all together, sweet dreams!

Monday, November 15, 2010

Cupcake #305 **sold**

More autumn colors coming out of the studio. This maple pecan cupcake is sitting on a deep burgundy background. Burgundy is essentially a neutralised shade of red. Begin with a bright stop sign red, add a bit of purple, and a touch of black. The trick to mixing colors well is to mix them often, and of course keep track of what works and what doesn't. Have a great fall day.

Cupcake #304

A deep chocolate cupcake piled high with milk chocolate frosting and drizzled with strawberry sauce. Yum! Resting on a pale blue grey background, this is sure to appeal to the chocoholic in your life! I can just imagine this on a chocolate brown wall, simply stunning.

Cupcake #303 **sold**

This simple creamy yellow cupcake just glows sitting on a dark background. You'll find surfing through past cupcakes that the backgrounds rarely get beyond mid range in the value scale. But the deep raisin brown works as a nice contrast to the pale colors of the subject. And the brown would make this little number pair up nicely with a dark chocolate cupcake! Enjoy!

Cupcake #302 **sold**

A soft sage green surrounds this crunchy nutty chocolate cupcake. A swirl of icing lightly dusted with cocoa is the crowning glory. Don't you have a little corner in your living room that this would bring a smile to? Do I need to start counting shopping days until Christmas?!

Wednesday, November 10, 2010

Cupcake #301 **sold**

Two bright crisp primary colors make this piece pop! Raspberries nestled in a bed of cream, with a matching red paper cup. All wrapped in a bright yellow background, wishing you nothing but sunshine!

Cupcake #300 **sold**

Holy smoke! 300 cupcakes! We've marked the occasion with this fun cupcake piled high with marshmallows. The pink and pale green are tints of red and green, which are complementary colors. The background is a pale yellow, neutralised with a touch of black to let the pure colors of the cupcake sing. Only 65 cupcakes to go folks! Get one while they're hot!

A few weeks ago the Atlanta Cupcake Factory received a call to design some cupcakes for a staff meeting at TBS. The Conan team was coming to town, and wanted some cupcakes to celebrate! This was the fabulous Conan cupcake they came up with, we've put it on a red carpet background. Tonight is the first episode of the new show, and this would be a perfect gift for your favorite Conan O'Brian fan! Enjoy!

Brrrr, there wasn't any frost on the pumpkin this morning, but it was awfully close! This yummy pumpkin cupcake starts with a spice cake. Topped with thick pumpkin cream cheese frosting and a scattering of coconut. All sitting on an olive green background. Warm colors and warm thoughts for a happy autumn!

Cupcake #297 **sold**

What a crazy beautiful cupcake! Folks often assume I spend most of my waking hours in the kitchen baking all these wonderful cupcakes for Scott to paint. I hate to break it to you, but I haven't baked a single one! Many of them are purchased at our favorite cupcake haunts, and some of them simply come out of Scott's imagination. Like this one! I have no idea what kind of icing could be so bright and glossy, yet not run off the cupcake. But Scott doesn't have to worry about what's possible in the real world! Have a great day!

Thursday, November 4, 2010

Cupcake #296 **sold**

A sprinkle of color tops cupcake #296. The pale lemon lime icing is contrasted by a soft pink background. The result is an understated beauty. Perfect for a little girl's room, a pretty powder room, or if you have a stunning retro kitchen complete with pink Formica, this is your cupcake! Enjoy, and we'll be back around this time tomorrow!

Cupcake #295 **sold**

Fresh juicy lime on an orange sherbet background. The sunny colors of citrus always bring a touch of summer with them. These are clean clear colors, and as we are enjoying a little Florida sunshine, we thought we'd pass a little sunshine on. Have a great day! The daily cupcake will be back on Wednesday, we'll see you then!

Cupcake #294 **sold**

I love the combination of pale pistachio green and chocolate brown, both in flavor, and the visual sense. Light bounces off the shiny streams of chocolate, I can't decide if it's still liquid, or a crisp layer of cold chocolate. But I am sure the cake has a bit of pistachio crunch. A line of chocolate themed cupcakes would bring a little joy to a living room, look around, where would they fit?

Cupcake #293 **sold**

This cupcake has it all, layers, whipped cream, and a bundle of berries. It's like a little berry shortcake you can eat with one hand! The background is a dotty spring green, this color was chosen to show off the warm colors of the vanilla cupcake, and makes the berries pop. Cheers!

Wednesday, October 27, 2010

Cupcake #292 **sold**

There is something about the combination of steel blue grey and deep chocolate brown that I just love. Both are quite neutral, so neither takes center stage, and they just get along so nicely! This piece could add a little smile to a formal dining room. Just because we don't frame these doesn't mean you can't. Imagine a wide linen liner, and an ornate silver frame, stunning!

I don't know about you, but there are lots of baby girls showing up in our neck of the woods. So here's a little pink for the girlie girls out there. Complete with a dusting of sugar (what else?) and a polka dotted background. You go girls!
