Cupcake #326

What a pretty thing! A Neapolitan cupcake! Starting with a dark chocolate cake, and piled high with layers of frosting this little cupcake is sitting on a background that is about the color of a vanilla sugar cookie. Anyone really sweet on your holiday shopping list? This may be the answer!

#271 is the perfect combination, chocolate and black cherry. Topped with a scattering of chocolate chips, and surrounded by a milk chocolate background, it is just waiting for someone to take a bite! Enjoy!

Cupcake #119 **sold**

Oh, chocolate, deep fudgey chocolate. You can tell the icing has to be thick and dense when it holds a sharp edge like this, and Scott has caught every highlight and shadow, taking your eye on a little journey through the swirls. All that surrounded by a beautiful canary singing at the top of his voice kind of yellow...with polka dots no less! Yellow is one of the few colors that has very little wiggle room, a bit too far in this direction and it looks green, and go the other way and it's orange. In fact, although I call the background here yellow, Scott has decided it is orange, we'll leave it for you to decide!

Cupcake #104 **sold**

I love this cupcake, I could hardly wait until noon to post it! I love everything from how the cake cracks a bit at the base of the creamy icing, to the beautiful pink that surrounds it. The hardest part is, the real thing is sitting in the fridge, calling me. Enjoy!

Cupcake #99 **sold**

Chocolate, raspberries, all surrounded by a yummy creamy yellow, this is simply a delicious cupcake. Scott painted the highlights on this raspberry perfectly, they don't sparkle or shine, they just illustrate that soft dry texture of a fresh raspberry. Scattered with chocolate chips and flakes of coconut, if this doesn't make you go find your local cupcake shop, I don't know what will! And if this is #99, I guess that means tomorrow is 100! But don't worry, we aren't stopping there! There will be plenty more. And I'd love to give you a hint as to what tomorrow's will be, but it hasn't even been started yet! A surprise for all of us!

Cupcake #97 **sold**

Everything is better with a cherry on top! Even chocolate, and you can hardly get better than chocolate! Brown is one of those delicious neutral colors that almost anything goes with, which is why you see it so easily paired with everything from robin egg blue, to celery green, or in this case, magenta! The background, a pale cream, just stays out of the way to let these two colors play! Have a great day, and eat chocolate!

Cupcake #95 **sold**

You just can't go wrong with chocolate. I love how Scott captured the edges in the thick fudge icing, you can almost taste it! It sits in purple cup that leans towards the magenta side of the spectrum, and is surrounded by a creamy neutral color that is almost, but not quite yellow. This little piece stands alone beautifully, but would also play well in a group. I'll be posting tomorrow's cupcake early, as I'll be on an airplane around noon, but then we should be back on schedule for the rest of the week! Enjoy!

Cupcake #92 **sold**

For all of you who kinda like the sentiment of Valentine's day, but not all the pink and froth and fluff, we have a demure little cupcake! Perhaps for the man in your life? A simple chocolate cupcake surrounded by a warm mossy green. Greens can be quite bright and harsh, but add a little of their complementary color to the mix, (red) and they settle down into more natural tones quite quickly. Have a great day!

Cupcake #89 **sold**

It's Valentine Week at the Daily Cupcake! Every day this week we will be posting a new cupcake for your sweetheart, or yourself. They will all have a heart or hearts to celebrate this sweet day. This one also has a strawberry perched on top, and a little heart that is made by drizzling warm chocolate into a heart shape onto a piece of waxed paper and left to cool. Easier said than done! These will be sure to arrive before the 14th if you purchase this week. Cheers!

Cupcake #86 **sold**

You just can't go wrong with double chocolate, especially when you finish it of with curls of chocolate bark! The green of the paper cup is echoed in the background which just seems to vibrate in anticipation. This one just doesn't require much in the way of words, it's a beauty! Cheers!

Cupcake #85 **sold**

This one is a beauty! But really, how can you go wrong with chocolate, strawberry, and kiwi?! This little cupcake shows off it's full range of values, from the deep dark chocolate in the shadows, to the flicker of white light bouncing off the fruit. Value is important in a painting because the eye registers light and dark before it sees color. So a piece that has a good range of values is easy for the eye to "read" quickly. All of this surrounded by a warm fleshy pink, that is both a contrast to the pale green in the icing, and echoed in the highlight in the chocolate. Yum!

Cupcake #81 **sold**

What a beautiful little cupcake, Scott has captured the shine in the layer of chocolate perfectly. Topped with a couple of cherries and curls of dark chocolate, this is the cupcake that big girls dream about! Surrounded by a warm pink, this little piece would be sure to make someones day as a birthday or thank you gift!
On to another topic just for a moment, I have started another blog. This time featuring my work. It's brand spanking new, still tweaking a little here and there, but if you'd like to start watching it from day one, I guess this would be day one. You can find it at http://dresspaintings.blogspot.com/

Cupcake #77 **sold**

My eyes lit up when this one came down the studio stairs. The modeling of the little puff of whipped cream, the dusting of chocolate, it's just perfectly beautiful. I'm not so sure how lemon and chocolate would actually taste together, but it sure looks good! All surrounded by a simple clean blue background. If I were poking through a box of crayola crayons this would be closest to what they call cornflower blue. Clear crisp blue, leaning just a bit to the purple end of the spectrum. Enjoy!

Cupcake #75 **sold**

Wow, here we are at cupcake #75! Time flies when you're having fun as they say. Today's cupcake is perfectly gorgeous, but really how can you go wrong with chocolate and a cherry on top? All surrounded by my favorite color, purple. Which sounds much more sophisticated if you call it eggplant, or better yet, the french, aubergine. Cheers!

Cupcake #73 **sold**

OK, this is just to cute for words. I am practically wordless! Chocolate, a ladybug, and a yellow background that just sings about sunshine. I just love this one! Put it in your daughter's bedroom, the dining room, brighten up the kitchen, or even the office. The Office! This little painting could be an instant office stress reliever, it's certainly worth a try! Enjoy!

Cupcake #72 **sold**

A kiss on top makes everything good! A sweet little chocolate cupcake with a mound of vanilla icing, finished with a stripey Hershey's kiss. Surrounded by a warm terracotta red, this is a warm, yummy little piece, you can almost smell the chocolate! Browns, including this terracotta color, are all "tertiary colors." We all know the primary colors, red, yellow, and blue. The secondary colors are made by mixing two of the primaries, like red and yellow making orange. Tertiary colors take it one step further, adding the third primary, in this case a touch of blue moves orange into the browns. The tertiaries can be beautiful rich complex colors, or mud, depending on how you use and mix them, experiment with them on your palette!

Cupcake #69 **sold**

Mmm, blackberries and chocolate, who would have thought? Purple is one of my favorite colors, especially when it is paired with it's neighbor on the color wheel, blue. Even the cup has a hint of color. Repeating a color in a composition makes the eye move around and makes a piece pleasing to look at. And of course the fact that it's a cupcake makes it pleasing also! Enjoy the first cupcake of 2010, there will be many more to come!

Cupcake #68 **sold**

Chocolate and raspberry, what a great combination! I love how Scott painted the swirls in the icing, highlighting each edge. The pink background has been neutralised a little bit, softening it. A perfect piece for the sweetie in your life! There will be no cupcake tomorrow morning in celebration of New Years Day, but we'll see you bright and early Monday morning with cupcake #69. Happy 2010 everyone!

Cupcake #67 **sold**

Check out the triple peaks on this lemon meringue beauty! Lemon surrounded by lime. I can just see this piece in a very formal space, beautifully decorated in deep chocolate browns with an accent of spring green, then you see this painting, sitting on an end table, or hanging in a little spot on the wall, what a great shot of fun! That will give the bridge club something to talk about! Enjoy

Cupcake #66 **sold**

I just love this snowy little winter cupcake! White is an interesting color because it can reflect so much color around it, yet be so neutral. Piled high with icing, it is a very complex pattern, perfect for a New Years party, or winter wedding! A great gift idea, as it stands alone beautifully, or would be a perfect neutral piece to "rest the eyes" between cupcakes if you have, or plan on collecting, a bunch! Enjoy, and come back tomorrow, we have some beauties lined up for the rest of the week!
