I love this cupcake, I could hardly wait until noon to post it! I love everything from how the cake cracks a bit at the base of the creamy icing, to the beautiful pink that surrounds it. The hardest part is, the real thing is sitting in the fridge, calling me. Enjoy!

I just love this little cupcake, it's so formal looking, and somehow strikes me as a little art deco. The tight edges in the swirls of icing, as well as the curl of pink chocolate matching the edge of the cup. If a cupcake could be architectural in design, and I guess it can, this is a great example! Surrounded by a mossy green to complement the rosy pink, what can I say, it's a beauty!

Here's our second Valentine cupcake! A sweet pastel green with a yellow rose, surrounded by pink. We all know by now that red and green are complimentary colors, this is why pale green and pink work so nicely together. Who could resist those little heart sprinkles! Enjoy!

It's Valentine Week at the Daily Cupcake! Every day this week we will be posting a new cupcake for your sweetheart, or yourself. They will all have a heart or hearts to celebrate this sweet day. This one also has a strawberry perched on top, and a little heart that is made by drizzling warm chocolate into a heart shape onto a piece of waxed paper and left to cool. Easier said than done! These will be sure to arrive before the 14th if you purchase this week. Cheers!

Raspberries and cream, even the words sound pretty. Raspberry is a hue or variation of red that leans towards the purple side of red, rather than the orange side. Although you'll never be able to walk into an art supply store and look for a tube of raspberry colored paint, it is there. It's just labeled a little more scientifically, like quinacridone magenta. I like to mix a little of that with a bit of cadmium red to get this juicy color, add a little white to lighten it and you're there! Enjoy this yummy cupcake! And we'll see you tomorrow!

This one is a beauty! But really, how can you go wrong with chocolate, strawberry, and kiwi?! This little cupcake shows off it's full range of values, from the deep dark chocolate in the shadows, to the flicker of white light bouncing off the fruit. Value is important in a painting because the eye registers light and dark before it sees color. So a piece that has a good range of values is easy for the eye to "read" quickly. All of this surrounded by a warm fleshy pink, that is both a contrast to the pale green in the icing, and echoed in the highlight in the chocolate. Yum!

What a beautiful little cupcake, Scott has captured the shine in the layer of chocolate perfectly. Topped with a couple of cherries and curls of dark chocolate, this is the cupcake that big girls dream about! Surrounded by a warm pink, this little piece would be sure to make someones day as a birthday or thank you gift!

Oh, you just can't go wrong with raspberries and cream. All dressed up in a pink paper cup. The pale green background was chosen because if you find this raspberry pink on the color wheel you'll find it lands somewhere between red and purple. Then shoot directly across and you find a spot somewhere between yellow and green, and we all know colors that sit opposite on the color wheel are complementary colors. Add a little white to lighten and freshen it up and you end up with this pretty celery green. Yum! Have a great day!

Hmmm, pink and what would we call this, peach or salmon? You end up with one of the most complicated sounding phrases in the color theory world, "analogous discord." Analogous discord is what you get when you take two colors that sit next to each other on the color wheel (analogous colors) in this case red and orange, and add white to lighten the value of one or both so that they are either the same value. Or, as in this case, make the red lighter than the orange, this created the discord, because red is a deeper value than orange in it's untinted state. Or, you simple have a sweet pink cupcake on a simple peach background...however you want to look at it! Have a great weekend, and we'll be back on Monday!

A pretty little slice of strawberry tops today's cupcake. Mounds of pink cream on chocolate, surrounded by a minty green background gives this piece a nice fresh look. Pink and pale green are complementary colors, as they sit across from each other in the color wheel in their original forms of red and green. Adding white to a color creates a tint, and adding black creates a shade, and you'll find plenty of both in this piece.

Chocolate and raspberry, what a great combination! I love how Scott painted the swirls in the icing, highlighting each edge. The pink background has been neutralised a little bit, softening it. A perfect piece for the sweetie in your life! There will be no cupcake tomorrow morning in celebration of New Years Day, but we'll see you bright and early Monday morning with cupcake #69. Everything tastes better with a cherry on top! And a little cherry drizzle can't hurt either. This little cupcake is piled high, then surrounded by pistachio green. Oh, such a pretty thing! We all have our favorite cupcakes and this is definitely one of my favorites. Raspberries and cream, on a pretty pink background. What a great gift for a girlfriend, or a baby shower, (anyone can buy another pack of onesies!) Start someones art collection, or freshen it up a bit, they'll love you for it!

This piece reminds me of a cross between Dr. Seuss, and the B-52's, and that makes for one crazy cupcake! And I get to use the phrase "analogous discord" again, which is when you lighten the value of the red to the same or lighter value as it's analogous color, orange, this creates the "discord." All in all this is just a really fun piece, it would add just a touch of crazy to a collection, or add a giggle to a little girl's room. Have a great day!

A bit of color to brighten up a room. No need to confine this piece to the kitchen or dining room, although you could, but it would be so fun in a child's room! Mountains of candy, on pale green icing. With a chunky raspberry background, you just know it will make somebody giggle! Enjoy!

A plump little raspberry for all you fruit fans out there! Piles of pink icing, drizzles of chocolate, surrounded by a neutral taupe background. This would be a perfect fit for a fancy little powder room, or as the more neutral option in a colorful grouping. Color theory fans know that neutral colors give the eye a rest between brighter colors, and keep them from fighting for attention. Enjoy, and tell a friend!

Scott came down the studio stairs last night exclaiming "oooh this is going to be a hit!" And I think he may be right! Beautiful pastel colors, these are achieved by adding white to the main body of color, lightening the 'value' of the color. Value refers to the lightness or darkness in color theory. Add all the technical stuff to the southern Red Velvet cake with cream cheese frosting or icing depending where you come from, and I think Scott's correct. It's gonna be a hit!

I always have a soft spot for the chocolate ones! Several soft spots actually... The little wedge of dark and white chocolate nestled in the icing launches a simple cupcake instantly into art. I can't put my finger on it but this piece reminds me of '80's fashion...something Joan Collin's would have worn on Dynasty! Go figure? Anyway, my scanner has a problem interpreting this pink, in real life it's a little lighter, and warmer, perfectly yummy. Don't hesitate, I think this one will go quickly!

Good morning everyone! This little number is fresh from a good weekend's painting in the studio. I don't know about you, but I can practically feel the coconut tickling my upper lip! For you color theory buffs out there, this is a good example of complementary discord. Complementary because red and green are opposites on the color wheel, and discord because the value of the red (it's lightness or darkness) is lightened to a similar value as the green. Probably more than you wanted to know this early on a Monday! Enjoy, and keep in touch, because I've seen some beauties coming down the stairs!
